Chapter 13: Heart in a Cage

*Warning: Contains strong language & some sensuality*

Summer stepped back into her hotel room and noticed Eric still sitting comfortably in the sofa chair. She walked passed him and he suddenly appeared in front of her. He sensed that she was still angry with him and maybe even trying to make him jealous with that Lucian douche bag.

Summer: What do you want?

Eric: Like your new friend?

Summer: Maybe I do. I’ll need new friends now that I’m dead. Especially since I’ll lose the ones that are alive.

Eric: You sound tense. Have you fed recently?

Summer: I’m fine. Now move out of my way.

He stepped forward closer to her and leaned his head down towards her face, trying to make the first move on her. A strong, familiar aroma caught his attention. It smelled like a strong sweet iron smell. Exactly the way human blood smells like. He pulled his head back away from her face and flashed her a devilish grin, knowing what she had done.

Eric: How was it?

Summer: How was what? (Sounding annoyed)

Eric: Your meal. How was it?

Summer: Bitter.

Eric: You fed from that bitch that killed you, didn’t you? Is that why you were so eager to leave Bon Temps?

Summer: You’re worse than a woman. Do you need to know everything?

Eric: That’s cute…but no. But I do have to ask you this; did you get your revenge?

Summer: Sorry to disappoint you, but no. All I did was freak her out.

Eric: That is very disappointing.

She tried to walk passed him but he slid his hand behind her back and pulled her into him. He leaned down and pressed his cold dead lips onto hers. She wanted to push him away but he was such a great kisser. It was getting extremely difficult for her to stay angry with him, so she let him kiss her. Slowly he unzipped the back of her dress. The dress slid down her body and onto the floor below. He leaned down and began kissing her bare shoulder. Before she knew it, she was sitting on the edge of the bed. Eric stood in front of her, shirtless. Summer ran her hands up his firm chest. He leaned down, softly planting his lips onto hers and pushed her down onto the bed. His body lied on top of hers as their lips moved together in harmony. He slid his arm behind her back and pulled her upwards towards him. They were now vertical on the bed, her legs wrapped around his waist. He pressed his cold lips softly on her neck and snaked his hand behind her neck, pulling her closer to him. Her fangs popped out from the pleasure she felt from him kissing her bare skin. Slowly he pushed her back down onto the bed, continuing to kiss her and sliding his hand down her leg.

The next night, the electric blinds opened, and Summer’s eyes immediately opened. She sat up, pressing the sheets up against her chest. Quietly she steps down off the bed and bends down to pick up her bra and panties. She slips them on and steps into the bathroom. Eric opens his eyes and forms a satisfied grin on his face.

A half hour later, Eric and Summer step out of the hotel room. They walk down the hall and towards the elevator. They both enter the elevator which takes them down to the lobby. Eric approaches the receptionist’s desk and signs both him and Summer out of the hotel. Summer waits by the front entrance when Lucian approaches her.

Lucian: Leaving so soon?

Summer: It’s about time I head back home.

Lucian: Well it was a pleasure meeting you. Hopefully we’ll see each other again soon.

He grabs her hand and lifts it up towards his face. Softly he presses his cold lips onto the top of her hand, his eyes meeting hers as he does. As he lets go of her hand, Eric appears next to her side.

Eric: Do you not remember our conversation the other night? Surely you’re not that old.

Summer: Eric, that’s enough. He was just telling me good-bye.

Lucian: Good-bye, love (smiling at Summer)

As he walked passed Eric, he flashed him an evil grin. Eric then grabbed Summer’s hand and escorted her out of hotel lobby and outside. They stepped into the black SUV that was waiting for them and drove them to the airport to take them back to Louisiana.

A few hours later, back in Shreveport, Louisiana, Eric and Summer enter the Northman mansion. Pam smiled as she strolled down the stairs.

Pam: You’re both back so soon.

Eric: How was everything at Fangtasia?

Pam: Excellent. But I have to say, I am disappointed that you’re back so soon.

Eric: Are you heading to Fangtasia now?

Pam: Yes. Well hello, Summer (noticing her)

Summer: I need to go to Merlotte’s.

Eric: That’s not a wise choice at the moment.

Summer: I’ll go where ever I please. I don’t need your permission.

Pam: Looks like we have a rebel on our hands. (Patting Summer on the shoulder) A little advice. You better do as he tells you.

Summer: I’m not scared of him. And I don’t have to do anything.

Pam: (rolling her eyes) Well do what you must then.

Pam walks passed Summer and out the front door. Eric turns to look at Summer, staring her dead straight in the eyes.

Eric: You are coming to Fangtasia with me.

Summer: Make me.

Eric: (biting down on his lower lip) You are so stubborn. You make me crazy. Now I’m going upstairs, so you better still be here when I get back.

Eric turns back around and faster than a blink he is up the stairs. Summer watches at he goes down the hallway, upstairs and then quickly heads out the front door. Once outside, she decides to be bold and steal Eric’s red Ferrari. She slides into the front seat, closes the door, grabs the keys from under the visor and places it into the ignition. The car speeds out of the driveway and onto the paved road headed towards Bon Temps.

Meanwhile, at Merlotte’s Bar & Grill, Sam and Tara are standing behind the bar fixing drinks for their customers. Sookie walks up towards the bar and slowly and carefully picks up the serving tray off the counter top, placing it on the palm of her hand. She then slowly steps away from the bar and over to her section of tables. Stepping foot through the front door is Jared West, James’ little brother. He looks around and notices people eating at their tables or playing a game of pool in the game room. A 40 something year old woman, sitting at the table with her husband, notices Jared standing in the doorway. Her eyes widened as she notices a shot at his side.

Woman: He’s gotta gun! (Sounding scared)

Jared lifts up the shot gun and starts pointing it out in front of him. Everyone in the bar notices him and forms frightened looks on their faces. He stands in the middle of the bar and looks around for Summer but doesn’t seem to spot her anywhere.

Jared: Where is she?!

Sam: Who are you looking for? (Standing behind the bar)

Jared: Summer Stackhouse. Now where is she?!

Sam: Calm down. She’s not here.

Tara: She died recently.

Sam lowers his head down and then looks back up towards Jared. Jared forms a confused look on his face and continues to point the shot gun in their direction.

Outside the bar, Jason pulls onto the gravel parking lot in his red ford truck. The door flies open and Jason steps down onto the gravel. He closes the driver side door and walks toward the bar. Immediately he stops in his tracks as he notices a man standing in the middle of the bar with a shot gun in his hand. Jason thinks to himself on what he should do. Should he call the police for help or is this his chance to play the town’s hero? He breathes in deeply and quietly walks toward the front door. Reaching out in front of him, he grabs the bar on the door and slowly and quietly pulls it open. As he steps foot inside the bar, he raises his index finger and places it against his lips to signal everyone not to make a sound.

Jared: Where is she?!

Jason makes his way behind Jared and reaches out, getting ready to make his move. Suddenly Jared spins around and grabs Jason by the neck, lifting him up off the ground, and then throwing him across the room. Jason lands on top of one of the vacant tables, smashing it underneath him. He opens his eyes slightly, but because of the intense pain, he blacks out.

Jared spins around, continuing to point the gun towards Sam and Tara behind the bar.

Jared: I’m not going to ask you again. Now where is she?

Sam: She isn’t here. We’re telling you the truth.

Summer: I’m right here.

Jared spins around and notices Summer standing in front of the door. Summer listens in on his thoughts and hears how angry he really is with her. She also hears that he has silver bullets in the gun and that he’s going to end her.

Summer: What are you doing here, Jared?

Jared: I’m here for you.

Summer: I’m flattered. Really I am. Now I think it’s wise if you leave right now.

Jared: I’m not leaving here. Not after what you did.

Summer: Oh, I see now. This is about Lee.

Jared: Tell everyone here what you did?! (Getting angry)

Summer: I didn’t do much. If I did, then you wouldn’t know anything now would you?

Jared: Do they know what you are?

Summer: Some probably do.

Jared: Then tell them. Tell them, NOW!!

Summer glances around the room, noticing the fear and concern on everyone’s faces. She also hears the various thoughts running through their heads. Some know what she is. And others are confused. Then again, some of the men’s thoughts only think of her as a sex object.

Summer: Tara was right. I am dead. I think they can piece the rest together.

Jared: Now tell them what you did to Lee (still pointing the gun towards her).

Summer: What I did?! Do you know what she did?! (Getting angry)

Summer focused in on his thoughts and heard that he did in fact know what Lee had done. She also heard that he could have stopped it, but he cared too much for Lee to do so. He knew if he would have stopped her that he would have never seen or heard from her again.

Summer: You knew. But you didn’t stop her because of your feelings for her. How pathetic does that sound?

Jared: What you did to her was even worse. You killed the man she loved. My brother.

Summer: That didn’t give her the right to stab me numerous times and leave me in a pool of my own blood. And because of what she did, I’m now this walking, dead, blood sucker. Tell her thanks next time you see her.

Jared: I am sorry. Honestly I am.

Summer: You want to kill me, then you better do it now.

Jared pointed the gun at her and his finger shook vigorously on the trigger. He wanted to kill her, but then again he knew it would only stun her for a few seconds. She stared him in the eyes and knew that he was scared and uncertain of what to do. Before he could make a choice, Summer smacked the gun out of his hand. The gun went sliding across the floor, stopping at Sookie’s feet.

Summer: You should have pulled the trigger (fangs out).

Faster than a human blink, she grabbed Jared’s neck with both hands and twisted it, breaking his neck, killing him. Jared’s body fell life-less onto the floor below her. She closed her eyes feeling a rush of satisfaction.

Eric: Now that wasn’t a disappointment at all.

Summer spun around and noticed Eric standing in the door way. He had a big grin on his face and started clapping for his own amusement. Everyone in the bar had shocked glances on their faces. They couldn’t believe what they had just seen. Summer retracts her fangs and turns around, glancing down at Jared’s dead body. Sookie walked over towards her, placing her hand on her shoulder for comfort.

Sookie: Summer?

Summer: Don’t touch me.

She pulled herself away from Sookie and took small steps backwards.

Sookie: Summer, talk to me.

Summer: It’s best if you just stay away from me for awhile.

Summer quickly left out the front door of the bar. Sookie wanted to run after her, but she knew that her sister was going through a rough patch. Eric approached the bar and takes out a card from his inside jacket pocket. He flicks it out towards Sam. Sam reaches out and takes the card.

Eric: Call the number on that card and they will get rid of that body for you. No questions asked.

Sam: But…. (Interrupted)

Eric: No questions asked.

Eric turns around and strolls towards the front door. Before he reaches the door, he turns back to look at everyone inside the bar.

Eric: Enjoy the rest of the evening.

He walks out of the bar and Sookie rushes to her brother’s side. She kneels down and slides her hand behind his neck, lifting it up towards her. Slowly he opens his eyes and glances up at her. He flinches in pain and she glances over at Sam, who is behind the bar. Sam grabs the cord-less phone and dials 9-1-1. He also calls the number on the card that Eric gave him.

Later at the Northman mansion, Summer enters Eric’s bedroom and notices all the new clothes lying across Eric’s bed. Eric appears behind her and slides his hands across Summer’s waist. Summer pulls away from him and turns to face him.

Summer: What the hell is this?

Eric: I had Pam go out and buy you some new clothes.

Summer: I don’t need any new clothes. I have clothes back at my place.

Eric: I thought you told Sookie that you didn’t want to be around her for awhile?

Summer: I don’t. But I don’t need all of this.

Eric: You’re upset. Can I do something to help you relax? (Forming a smirk on his face)

Summer: (rolling her eyes) I think I will find somewhere else to sleep tonight.

Eric: I’m going to have to quote Pam on this one. Don’t be so dramatic.

Summer: I just killed someone!

Eric: I know. The first time is always the best.

Summer: You are such a heart-less ass-hole.

Eric: I have no use for a heart. And neither do you.

Summer: I didn’t want to kill him.

Eric: Then why did you?

She tried to walk passed him, but he grabbed her arm and yanked her towards him. He slid his hands down both her arms and leaned down to kiss her. As he pressed his lips against hers, she bit him. She stomped passed him and out the bedroom. Eric licked the blood from his lips, forming a smirk on his face.

Eric: You know I like it when you’re rough.

He follows her down the hallway and down the stairs. An average height male with short whitish-blonde hair and bright blue eyes stands in the middle of the living room area. Eric realizes who it is and walks over towards him.

Eric: Andre, what brings you here?

Andre: The queen was right. There is a new member to our community (noticing Summer).

Eric: She knows about Summer?

Andre: She requests that you and your new off-spring appear before her at the annual Hallows Eve party at her place this weekend.

Eric: Wow, that’s this weekend?

Andre: (handing him an invitation) You better bring her, if you know what’s best for you. Have a nice evening.

He flashes both Eric and Summer a fake, un-friendly smile and steps out the front door.

Summer: I am not going.

Eric: She is our Queen. We have to go.
Summer: Seriously? Wow. I don’t think so. You may be scared of your Queen, but I’m not. Cause she’s not my Queen.

Eric: As your maker I command you to go with me.

Summer: (rolling her eyes) Fine. You don’t have to beg. It’s kind of pathetic.

She walks passed him and towards the front door.

Eric: Where do you think you’re going?

Summer: I’m finding somewhere else to stay tonight.

Eric: And who may that be?
Summer: Bill. Even though I don’t like him, at least it’s better than here.

Before she could grip a hold of the door knob, Eric swooped her up in his arms and faster than the blink of an eye was up the stairs and then in his bedroom. The door closing behind him.
