Chapter 11: Eyes of the Devil

*Warning: Contains bad language*

The new, improved and now…dead, Summer Stackhouse was on top of her twin sister with her hand grasping tightly around her throat. Sookie realized what Eric had done with Summer’s body. He had turned her that day at Merlotte’s and buried her body at the cemetery so that she could rise a vampire. Sookie felt happy that Eric had listened to her plea and turned her sister, but she also felt intense fear that she was going to be her sister’s first meal.

Summer began smelling Sookie’s neck. The scent was intoxicating. She was trying so hard not to sink her fangs into her sister’s neck, but the thirst was consuming her. She never felt such intense hunger in her life. As she stared at Sookie’s neck, she noticed the jugular vein was pulsing through the skin. Long and hard she stared at that vein in her sister’s neck, wanting so hard just to bite and drink, but it was her sister and she just couldn’t. Thoughts filled her head, as clear as a TV signal. The thoughts were of fear and panic.

Sookie: (in her thoughts) Summer, please don’t kill me.

Summer loosened her grip from Sookie’s neck and faster than a blink, was off of her sister and on the other side of the room. Sookie slowly sat up and then stood back up on her feet. She noticed Summer’s back was facing her. Slowly she approached her knowing that her sister was hungry for blood. Summer quickly spun around, facing Sookie, her fangs still out.

Summer: Get away from me, Sookie.

Sookie: I know you won’t hurt me.

Summer: I’m not the same sister you once knew. I don’t even feel like the same person.

Sookie: If you wanted to kill me then you would have done it already.

Summer: Sookie, don’t be stupid. The thoughts roaming through my head right now is extremely unpleasant.

Sookie tried to concentrate on Summer’s thoughts, but she heard nothing. She never could read vampire thoughts since they are dead and don’t think like everyone else, so it made sense that she couldn’t read Summer’s. But she was curious if her sister still had her telepathy ability.

Summer: I can hear everything you’re thinking right now.

Sookie: Alright, now that’s just creepy.

Summer: I should be creeping you out right now. I’m dead and a bloodsucker (angry)

Sookie: Would you at least hide your fangs or something?

Summer: I can’t. That’s the point. Right now all I’m concentrating on is that vein in your neck pulsating.

Sookie: Well stop it.

Summer: I think I should go.

Sookie: Don’t leave, please.

Summer: You really want me here, even though I just attacked you and almost ripped your throat out?

Sookie: You’re my sister. (Pause) I missed you.

Summer: Well your sister is dead. How much do you like me now?

Summer faster than a blink, ran passed Sookie and out the front door. Sookie quickly spun around and ran after her. As she reached the front door, she looked around and Summer was gone. Eric suddenly appeared in front of her. Sookie jumped, startled by his sudden appearance.

Eric: Where is she?

Sookie: She just left.

Eric: Damn, she’s fast.

Sookie: Why did you keep this a secret from me…and my brother? We are her family. We have the right to know.

Eric: Yes, she was your sister.

Sookie: She still is (sounding upset)

Eric: She’s dead, Sookie. She won’t be the same.

Sookie: I don’t believe that. She didn’t kill me. I’m still here.

Eric: Well she may have resisted, but the next person she comes into contact with may not be too lucky.

Eric then sensed that Summer was not too far away. He quickly took off running off the porch and towards the road, without saying anything to Sookie. Sookie quickly went back inside the house to go call Jason about Summer.

Meanwhile, at Merlotte’s, Summer stopped running and was standing in the parking lot, staring at the front of the bar. She was tempted to go inside and show her lifeless, pale face but then again she did not want to scare her friends. Eric then appeared behind her. She quickly spun around, sensing his presence, and gave him an evil glare. Summer hated the fact that Eric had disregarded her request about not wanting to be a vampire. She wanted to get a wooden stake and stab him in the chest for what he did to her. He flashed her a smirky smile but he could tell by the look on her face that she was furious with him. He couldn’t help to look her up and down. She was looking pretty good for being only a few hours old.

Summer: You cold, selfish, son-of-a-bitch.

Eric: I understand you’re angry.

Summer: You understand? You have no idea (angry)

Eric: You were close to death. You should be thanking me.

Summer: Actually I would rather kill you. I didn’t want this. You should have let me die.

Eric: You will change your mind. Being a vampire is not so bad.

Summer: Maybe to you it’s not, but I find sucking human blood very bad. It’s disgusting.

Eric: It’s an acquired taste. But you didn’t seem to complain when you drank my blood.

Summer: I had to in order to heal. The taste was metallic and just…gross. Actually I would just rather meet the sun than to drink someone’s blood. Do you know that I thought about biting my own sister?

Eric: They were just thoughts.

Summer: It won’t be a thought next time.

Eric thought about giving her a smart-ass remark, but he didn’t want to fuel her fire even more. He knew that she was enraged but he had to get her away from the bar before she decided to actually rip some people’s throats out.

Eric: Come with me to Fangtasia.

Summer: I’m not going anywhere with you.

Eric: As your maker, I command you (in a stern voice)

Summer wanted to ignore what he just said, but apart of her wanted to listen. It was a strong urge of obedience, which she hated. She rolled her eyes at him and walked towards him. They ended up running back to Fangtasia in Shreveport.

Later at Fangtasia, Summer was sitting on the leather couch in Eric’s office. Eric sat at his desk and pressed the button on his phone, calling Pam. Pam opened the door and noticed Summer sitting on the couch. She formed a smirk on her face and closed the door behind her.

Pam: Well, Well, being a vampire definitely agrees with you.

Summer didn’t respond back, she just sat still with her arms folded with an angry look on her face.

Eric: She woke up on the wrong side of the grave this evening. (Jokingly)

Pam: I can see that.

Eric then spoke to Pam in a foreign language and she formed an excited look on her face. She flashed Summer a smile and stepped out of the office.

Summer: What the hell did you just tell her?

Eric: You will find out soon enough.

The office door slowly opened and in walked Pam with a young male. He was tall, slender, with dark hair and eyes. He was probably a little over 21. Pam then whispered into his ear and he nodded his head. Slowly he walked over towards Summer and then sat down next to her on the leather couch. Immediately, she bolted up off the couch, shaking her head in disbelief.

Summer: Are you fucking serious?

Eric: You need to feed.

Summer: I told you I would rather meet the sun.

Pam: (rolling her eyes) Don’t be so dramatic.

Eric: If you do not at least try and taste human blood, then you will always crave it. Eventually it will drive you insane.

Summer: I can’t do it (shaking her head)

Eric: You are not going to suck him dry. Just taste him.

She looked down at her feet, trying not to look in the direction of the young male sitting on the leather couch. The smell of him filled her nostrils. His scent was strong and just mouth watering. She bit down on her lower lip, trying to decide what she should do.

Young Male: It’s okay if you taste me. I do not mind.

Pam: He volunteered immediately after I mentioned your name.

Young Male: I’ve remember her from when she bartended here not too long ago.

Eric: I think you have an admirer.

Summer: Kid, you do not know what you’re asking me to do.

Young Male: I do know.

Pam: Oh, just get it over with already.

Summer: I just can’t.

Eric: I can feel that you want to.

He was right. She really did want to. The thirst was driving her crazy. She could feel her fangs just wanting to pop out. The young male stood up off the couch and approached her. She caught a stronger scent and before she could even think about it, she charged him, fangs out and sunk her teeth into his neck. The taste of his blood in her mouth made her crave more. She did more than just taste him. Eric got up off of his chair and grabbed Summer by the arm, pulling her away from the boy. She pulled her fangs out of his neck and the boy grabbed his throat and had a scared look on his face. Quickly he ran out of the office and out of the bar. Summer had blood trickling down the side of her mouth, her fangs still out. She couldn’t believe what she had just done. Eric gave Pam a look and she quickly stepped out of the office. Before Summer could respond to what she did to that boy, Eric’s lips were pressed against hers. He began licking the blood from the side of her mouth. The feeling of his lips on hers felt so differently than before. Maybe it was because she dead and now cold to the touch herself. As he continued kiss her, he slid his arm behind her back and pulled her towards him. Even though she was mad at him, she couldn’t hold back from kissing him. A thought had popped into his head, which really set her off. He was thinking that he had her and she finally had forgiven him. She pushed him away and gave him a dirty look.

Summer: I haven’t forgotten shit. You are an ass-hole.

Eric: You heard what I was thinking? (Pause) Interesting.

Summer: It’s not interesting. Now I can hear everyone and everything.

Eric: You will grow accustom to it.

Summer: I’m getting out of here.

She tried to walk passed Eric, but he grabbed her arm and pulled her towards him. Their faces just a few inches away from one another. Her stared her in the eyes, long and hard, but she was not going to give in.

Eric: Now what am I thinking?

She heard his thought and it wasn’t exactly PG rated. Summer rolled her eyes at him and punched him in the chest. He let go of her arm and she quickly left out of office. Eric quickly followed. She pushed her way through the crowd of people, but then stopped suddenly. The thoughts of everyone around her, human and vampire, were loud in her head. She even heard the loud clunking of the liquor bottles and glasses from the bar as they were being served to the customers. Also, the strong scent of humans in the room was making her very thirsty. Tightly she shut her eyes and tried to concentrate on something else, but it wasn’t working very well. Suddenly she felt something on press against her lips. Her eye lids slowly opened and realized that Eric had caught up to her and was now kissing her. Even though she was still furious with him, he was actually distracting her from the thirst, loud noises and thoughts of everyone in the room.

An hour before dawn, Eric, Summer and Pam were now at the Northman mansion. As they stepped through the front door, Pam made her way upstairs. Summer then stepped into the living room and plopped down on the leather couch. Eric walked over towards her and grabbed her hand, pulling her up off the couch. Still holding onto her hand, he led her upstairs and into his bedroom. He began pulling off his leather jacket and then grasped the bottom of his tank top, lifting it up over his head and dropping it to the floor. As he slid off his jeans, he quickly got on the bed and began patting the spot next to him on the bed. Summer just stood frozen by the door.

Eric: Come lay with me. You know dawn is approaching.

For some strange reason, she felt that dawn was near. It must be just a normal vampire sense, because she never felt that before. She didn’t really want to lay next to him, since she was so angry, but she had to get over for the night until she figured out some other kind of arrangement for herself. Slowly she walked over towards the bed and slipped off her red high heeled shoes that Pam had bought her. Earlier that night, Summer was covered in dirt from head to toe, that she had to get washed up and get new clothes and stuff, and of course Pam had to run the errand. Summer climbed into bed, facing Eric. She tried closing her eyes, but she could feel him staring at her.

Summer: What?

Eric: (smiling) You’re still pissed off.

Summer: You think? (Sarcastically)

Eric: You can’t hate me for all eternity.

Summer: Oh, try me.

She turned over on her other side. Eric moved in closer, pressing up against her bed and draping his arm over her. He closed his eyes, with a devilish grin on his face. Summer just rolled her eyes and decided to give up for the night and closed her eyes.

The next evening, Eric’s eyes slowly opened and formed a big smile on his face. When he didn’t see anybody lying on the bed next to him, he bolted up. Summer was not in the bed with him. He quickly got out of bed and put on some new clothes. After he was dressed, he stepped out of his darkened room and into the hallway. Pam walked out of her room just as Eric stepped into the hallway.

Pam: Hello, Eric. How is my sister? (With a big grin on her face)

Eric: I wouldn’t know. She’s not here.

Pam: Uh, oh. (Pause) Kids, they’re always up to mischief.

Meanwhile, Summer was at the run down motel near Bon Temps, where James and his brother had stayed. She had busted down the door looking for Lee, but nobody was inside. Summer had on some new clothes and was sporting a new short style hair cut. She began sniffing around the room and realized why Vampires didn’t like the smell of Weres. The odor was strong and musky, well to a vampire anyways. She quickly ran out of the room, quicker than a blink, and into the front desk area of the motel. As she appeared at the front desk, she hit the bell and the clerk came out of the backroom. He was an older man, around his late 40’s to early 50’s.

Clerk: What may I help you with this fine evening?

Summer: The people that were staying in room 4A, where did they go?

Clerk: I think they’re headed back to Georgia. They were in quite a hurry.

Summer: Thank you.

She turned around and walked out of the front desk area. As she stepped outside, she noticed an old 1970’s black corvette sitting at the end of the parking lot. The parking lot wasn’t well lit so she quickly ran over towards it and pulled the front door opened. She slid inside and closed the door. As she was inside, she looked for the keys in the seat, glove compartment and then under the visors. The keys fell into her hand as she pulled down the visor in front of her. She placed the keys in the ignition and drove out of the parking lot.

Before dawn approached, Summer had to make a stop in Mississippi and stopped in Jackson where there was a vampire hotel. She had to find some place to sleep before making her way to Georgia. The Vampires and humans there seemed a little too friendly for her taste, but she didn’t really care for the time being. The bellhop showed her to her room and flashed her a smile before he walked off. Summer realized that somebody would probably call Eric and tell him where she was, but she would be gone before he ever set foot in Mississippi.

The next night, Summer drove out of Mississippi just as the sun set and into Alabama. Of course, she drove over 100 miles per hour or else she wouldn’t make it into the state of Georgia with the amount of hours she had left. Finally after several hours, she reached Atlanta, Georgia with a half hour to spare before dawn. She found another large Vampire hotel and decided to book herself there for the night. As she stood in front of the reception desk, a man in his late 20’s stood next to her. He was around 6 feet tall, with shoulder length brown hair and dark eyes. He wore all black and his face was pale. She could sense that he was a vampire and that he was eyeing her when she wasn’t looking. The receptionist booked Summer a room on the third floor and handed her a key car. Summer grabbed the card and turned around, walking away from the desk. She approached the elevators and pressed the button on the wall in front of her. The mystery man appeared beside her just as one of the elevator doors opened. She stepped inside and the man followed. They stood next to each other, waiting for the elevator to reach the third floor. Summer didn’t know if the man was following her or if he also had a room on the third floor. She tried focusing on his thoughts, but he wasn’t really thinking of anything. The elevator door finally opened and Summer quickly walked down the hall towards her room. As she reached her room, she slid the card key through the slot in the door and it popped open. The mysterious man walked passed her and to the room next to hers. She stepped inside her room and closed the door behind her.
