Chapter 3: Give Into Me

*Warning: Contains bad language*

The day after the fight between Sam and Eric at Merlotte’s, Summer was asleep on her queen sized bed. The sun beamed into her master bedroom, lighting up her face. The alarm clock clicked onto a local radio station and she bolted up, startled by the loud noise. She turned to glance at the clock sitting on her night stand and noticed that it read “10:00am”. She swung her legs over to the edge of the bed and stepped onto the floor. The sun shone in her face making her squint and raised her hand on her eyes to block the light. She slowly scuffled out of the bedroom and down the hallway to the bathroom.

About fifteen minutes later, Summer walked down the stairs and looked around the room for Tara but she was no where to bed found. She realized that maybe she stayed over Eggs place last night. As she headed towards the kitchen, she noticed the liquor cabinet and stared at it.

After 12:30pm, Summer staggered into Merlotte’s front entrance and made her way over to the bar where she noticed Terry. Terry noticed her and gave her a friendly smile.

Terry: Hey, Summer.

Summer: Hi, Terry. Don’t smell nice today.

Terry: What? (confused)

Summer patted him on the arm and then walked passed him. As she stepped into the back area, she noticed Sam speaking with Lafayette. Sam looked over and noticed Summer trying to put on her green apron. He walked down the hallway towards her and noticed her trying to tie her apron around her waist.

Sam: Here let me get that for you.

He reached out and tied the apron. Summer turned around and wrapped her arms around his waist, giving him a big hug. Sam didn’t know what to think, but he thought maybe she was just extra friendly today.

Summer: You are an awesome boss. I really mean that.

Sam: Thank you.

She let go of him and staggered her way back to the bar area. Sam realized that something was wrong and decided to approach her about it.

Sam: Summer, are you okay?

Summer: I’m good. Matter of fact, I’m better than good.

Sam: You’re acting awfully strange. Is it because of what happened yesterday?

Summer: Oh, yeah. I almost forgot the pissing contest between you and Eric.

Sam: He started it. There was nothing I could do.

Summer: Why didn’t you check up on me after I stormed out last night? Eric did. Yeah, I was pissed at him, but at least he was acting more human than you’ll ever be. Thanks for being a good friend (sarcastically)

Sam didn’t know how to respond to what she just said. He should have gone out after her that night, like a true friend and boss. He noticed Summer staggering around and how she kept hugging everyone that she came across. She grabbed the serving tray off the counter and ended up dropping it on the floor. Her reflexes weren’t as quick as they usually were.

Sam: Summer, are you drunk?

Summer: I am not drunk. What makes you think that?

She leaned down to pick up the serving tray off the floor and ended up falling backwards onto her behind. As her bottom hit the floor, she started laughing hysterically.

Sam: Alright, that’s it. You are drunk.

He grabbed both of Summer’s hands and pulled her up onto her feet. She continued laughing about falling onto her bottom. Arlene, Terry and Lafayette were staring at her as Sam helped her to one of the tables, where he placed her in the seat. He pulled up a chair in front of her and held her hand in his.

Sam: I know you’re still upset about last night… (interrupted)

Summer: I’m fine. I’m not upset anymore.

Sam: Sorry, but I can’t let you work while your drunk.

Summer: I told you I’m not drunk. I can handle myself quite fine. Thank you very much.

Sam: You can stay, so that I can keep an eye on you. I’ll let you help out with the easy stuff. So no waitressing.

Summer: Maybe I should get drunk more often (starting to laugh)

She then stands up and takes a step forward but she stumbles and Sam catches her. She pushes him away and walks to the back area, heading towards the ladies room.

Arlene: Well today is interesting. Good thing I came.

A few minutes later, Sam steps out of his office and realizes that Summer isn’t around. Lafayette points towards the bathroom door. Sam walks down the hall and pushes open the door to the ladies bathroom. Once the door swings open, Sam notices Summer drinking a small bottle of tequila. She turns and looks at him, with her mouth full, looking like she just got her hand caught in the cookie jar.

Sam: Seriously? (Shaking his head in disappointment)
He snatches the bottle out of her hand and pours the rest of it out in the sink, then throwing the empty bottle into the waist basket by the door.

Summer: Hey, I was going to drink the rest of that.

Sam grabbed her by the arm and led her out of the bathroom. Once they got into the main bar area, he sat Summer down in a chair and waved his index finger in her face.

Sam: You stay there. Don’t move. I’m calling your brother.

Summer: Well that’s just cruel.

Sam: And where the hell did you get that liquor from, anyways?

Summer: An old man was giving away free samples by the side of the road. Hey, it’s free, so I said what the hell.

Sam: This is not like you at all. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you drunk. You hate it when the customers get drunk here.

Summer: (laughing) Well now I know why they’re always drunk. Cause it feels good.

Before Sam could step away from her, she grabbed Sam by the arm.

Summer: Hey, can I have a gin and tonic? (Starting to laugh)

Sam: I don’t think so. (Walking towards the bar) Terry keep an eye on her. Don’t let her get up. I need to make a phone call.

Summer: (laughing) Cause I’m in trouble.

Sam glanced at her, rolled his eyes, and headed into his office, closing the door behind him. Summer stood up out of her chair and walked over towards the bar. Terry kept a close eye on her and made sure she didn’t try to get a drink of any kind. He turned around for a slight second to put down a box when he noticed Summer already behind the bar, trying to pour herself a drink. He ran over to her and snatched the bottle and the glass away from her.

Terry: Nah, uh. I don’t think so. Sam said no.

Summer: Why is everybody being such an ass today?

Terry: Go sit back down. Please.

Arlene: (stepping into the room) Terry, is she causing you any trouble?

Terry: Go sit down.

He gave Summer a long, hard stare and finally she rolled her eyes and staggered back over to her chair, by the bar. Several minutes later, Sam stepped out of his office and noticed Summer leaning back in her chair, looking up at the ceiling.

Sam: Alright, I called Jason. He said he’d be here in an hour. So until then, we need to make sure she doesn’t cause any trouble.

Summer: I’m a good girl, Sam. You know that (still looking up at the ceiling)

Sam went behind her chair and pushed it back up, so that she wouldn’t fall backwards onto the floor. Summer folded her arms and gave Sam a pouty look.

A few hours later, Jason finally walked through the front door of Merlotte’s, wearing tight blue jeans, a pair of alligator skinned boots, and a white wife beater. Sam noticed him, jumped out of his seat and walked over towards him.

Sam: It’s about time. Where were you? You said you would be an hour.

Jason: I’m sorry, but I have to work, too. I’m sure she was fine with you. Where is she? (Looking around for her)

Terry: Look behind the bar, man.

Jason walked up to the bar and leaned over it, staring down at the floor behind the bar. He noticed Summer sitting on the floor leaning against the bar by Terry’s feet.

Jason: What are you doing down there?

Summer: (looking up at him) Hi, Jason (with a big smile on her face)

Jason: (turning his head and looking at Sam) What the hell did you do to her?

Sam: Me? I didn’t do anything to her. She showed up here like this.

Jason: Summer? You’re talking about my sister, right?

Sam: I was just as shocked as you are right now.

Jason walked around the bar and stood in front of Summer, who was still sitting on the floor, looking up at him with a big smile on her face. He grabbed her hands and pulled her up onto her feet. She fell forward and Jason caught her. She began laughing and Jason held onto her arm and walked her out from behind the bar.

Summer: Hey, be a nice big brother and do something for me (smiling at him)

Jason: I’m afraid to even ask what.

Summer: Drop me off at Fangtasia. Please.

Jason: But you’re drunk.

Summer: Stop saying that. I’m fine. I’m supposed to help out today, because yesterday I didn’t.

Sam: Jason, don’t take her there. Eric will just take advantage of her.

Jason: He’s not a bad guy, Sam. I’m sure he can take care of her. Plus, I told them I would go back to work. I can’t take care of her. But I will pick her up from there after I get off.

Sam: Then she can just stay here then.

Summer: (smiling at Sam) Awww…Sam is worried. That’s cute. No wonder you shift into a dog.

Jason: What? (With a confused look on his face)

Sam: That’s just the alcohol talking.

Jason: Well thanks for taking care of her till I got her. I’ll make sure she doesn’t do this again. But you have to admit, it is pretty funny.

Jason continued to hold onto Summer’s arm and walked her out of the front door of the bar. He helped her get up into his red Ford truck and closed the door. Sam watched out the front door as Jason got into his truck and drove off the gravel road.

At Fangtasia a half hour later, Jason followed Summer into the bar and noticed Pam standing by the basement door. Summer walked up to her and gave her a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. As she walked away from Pam, Pam gave Jason a confused look.

Jason: Don’t look at me. She’s just kinda drunk.

Pam: Really? (With a smirk on her face) How interesting.

Jason: Can you and Eric watch her for a few hours? I have to head back to work. I’ll pick her up, I promise or maybe Eric can drive her home for me.

Pam: I’m sure he’ll love to (smiling)

Jason: Thanks. Later sis, be good (waving good-bye to her)

Summer waved good-bye and he walked quickly out of the bar. Pam turned around and noticed Summer sitting Indian style on top of one of the black tables. She rose up her eye brow and just snickered.

An hour later, Eric strolled into the bar and noticed the customers starting to roll in. Pam stood behind the bar, with a smile on her face. He didn’t see Summer anywhere and was concerned that something was wrong.

Pam: You have a present waiting for you in your office. You’re going to get a kick out of it (smiling)

Eric walked passed the bar and down the hall towards his office. He pushed opened his door and noticed Summer sitting in his desk chair, spinning around. She noticed him and stopped.

Summer: Hey there, sticks.

Eric: What did you call me?

Summer: Sticks. I called you, Sticks. It’s because your legs are long and skinny (starting to laugh) I thought you vampires had excellent hearing.

She began spinning around in his chair again and Eric realized that she was intoxicated. He just formed a big smile on his face. He closed the door behind him and sat down on the leather couch.

Summer: You should try this one time. It’s fun (still spinning around)

Eric: I’m sure I’ll give it a go one day (sarcastically)

Summer: I know sarcasm when I hear it. Don’t act so dead. (Starting to laugh) You are dead. That’s funny.

Eric: I’m glad to see that this is amusing to you.

Summer: Did I hurt your feelings? (Making a pouty face at him) I forget you vampires can’t take a joke.

She stood up out of the chair and made her way over to the couch, where Eric was sitting. She sat down next to him and smiled. Eric knew that she was drunk. He could feel it, because of their bond. But somehow he was amused by it. Summer then leaned in towards his neck and sniffed.

Summer: You smell good. Is it Eternity by Calvin Klein? (Starting to snicker) Get it?

Eric didn’t seem too amused by her joke, so he just gave her a fake smile.

Summer: Oh, come on. I was just kidding (smacking him on the knee)

She scooted over closer to him to where their legs and arms touch and she gave him a kiss on the cheek. He turned his head slowly to look at her, shocked by what she did.

Eric: What was that for?

Summer: For being such a sweet heart and staying with me last night till I fell asleep.

Eric: You asked me to.

Summer: You would do anything for me, wouldn’t you? (Staring at him, flirtatiously)

Eric: I would.

She leaned in towards his face and slowly placed her lips onto his. At first, he knew that she wasn’t exactly in her right state of mind, but he loved the way that her lips felt on his. Her lips were soft and tasted like strawberries, because of the lip gloss. They continued kissing and Eric forced her down onto the couch, where he then began kissing her neck. He ran his hand down her thigh and up towards her leg, grabbing it and lifting it up around his waist.

Meanwhile at Merlotte’s, a man wearing a waist length, black trench coat, with form fitting blue jeans, and dark boots strolls through the front door and walks over to one of the booths, sitting down. As he sits down, the new waitress, Claire, walks to his table with a friendly smile on her face.

Claire: Hello there, what may I get for you this evening? (Holding the note pad in one hand and a pink pen in the other)

Mysterious Male: I’ll take a coke.

Claire: Will that be all? (Writing his order on her notepad)

Mysterious Male: For now. Thanks.

Claire: Okay. I’ll be right back with your drink (giving him a big smile)

She walks away and heads toward the bar with his order. He glances around the room and notices people eating, drinking, socializing, or playing pool. He unbuttons his trench coat and slowly shimmies his arms out of the coat, one at a time and sets it next to him. Claire walks over to him with his drink and sets it down in front of him. She pulls out a straw from inside her apron pocket and sets it next to his drink.

Claire: There you go.

Mysterious Male: Thank you.

Claire: If you need anything else, I’ll be around.

Mysterious Male: Okay.

She noticed how skin tight his shirt was, showing off his chiseled chest. She smiled nervously and then quickly walked away. He formed a smirk on his face, because he knew that she was checking him out.

A few minutes later, he drank all his coke and slid out of the booth, grabbing his coat and walking up to the bar, where Tara was serving drinks. He leaned up against the bar and waited for Tara to finish up what she was doing so that he could ask her a question.

Mysterious Male: Do you mind if I ask you something?

Tara: Sure.

Mysterious Male: Does a girl named Summer Stackhouse work here?

Tara: Yes. Why?

Mysterious Male: I am an old friend of hers. I just arrived in town yesterday and thought that I would pay her a visit. Is she here by any chance?

Tara: (smiling at him) Sorry, but she’s working somewhere else tonight.

Mysterious Male: Where at? Maybe I’ll stop by and pay her a visit.

Tara: Can I ask who you are?

Mysterious Male: The name is Chris Hunter (Stretching out his hand to her)

She reached out and shook his hand. But she still had this look on her face, whether or not to tell him where Summer was really at. She didn’t know if he was telling the truth about who he really was. He could be a stalker or a potential serial killer.

Chris: I’m sorry, that’s rude of me. You’re protecting your friend and don’t want to tell me. That’s very nice of you. I guess I’ll come by tomorrow then. She’s works tomorrow, right?

Tara: You seem okay, I guess. I’m not getting a bad vibe off of you yet.

Chris: I’ll take that as a compliment.

Tara: Where do you know Summer from?

Chris: We met about three months ago, while she was traveling in Georgia.

Tara: Oh, okay. Yeah, she told me she went to Georgia for a few weeks. She never mentioned you though.

Chris: Really? Wow. I wonder why.

Tara: Maybe she forgot. It’s been crazy around here the past couple of months. She’s at a vampire bar in Shreveport called Fangtasia.

Chris: A vampire bar? Wow (long pause) I guess I’ll go pay her a visit. Thank you.

Tara: No problem. Come back again.

Chris: Oh, I will (Smiling)

He puts on his coat and heads towards the front door. Tara stares at his behind as he walks out the door. She smiles and laughs a bit and continues fixing drinks for the customers.

At Fangtasia, inside Eric’s office, Summer is straddling Eric on the couch, kissing him. Eric suddenly comes to the realization that it isn’t right what he is doing. He’s basically taking advantage of the situation. He wants her, but not in that state of mind, so he pushes her off of him and quickly pushes himself up off the couch. Before she could blink, he ran out of the office and into the bar area. Summer pushes herself up off the couch and walks out of the office. As she heads out into the bar, she notices everyone dancing around, drinking or socializing. She looks towards the front door and notices a male that catches her eyes. She suddenly realizes that it’s Chris. A guy she met while traveling down in Georgia. He noticed her and gave her a big smile. He made his way through the crowd and over to her.

Summer: Chris, what are you doing here?

Chris: I was in town and I thought I would pay you a visit.

Summer: How did you find me?

Chris: I followed your scent.

Eric sensed that Summer was frightened so he quickly appeared next to Chris. Chris realized someone was standing next to him and turned his head, noticing Eric.

Eric: Is there a problem here? (Giving Chris a cold, hard stare)

Summer: It’s okay. I know him.

Eric practically was burning a hole through Chris’ head, by staring at him. Chris knew that Eric was a vampire, but didn’t act scared one bit. Eric caught a whiff of his scent and realized that Chris wasn’t exactly human.
